InfoComm 2019: Designing System Infrastructure for the UHDTV Revolution

June 12 @ 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM

This year 8K displays are entering the market, but current display interfaces are barely fast enough for 4K signal transportation. As market trends drive the industry toward ever-higher resolution, let’s take a step back and examine not just the displays, but the considerations for UHD signal transportation. This class will get attendees up to speed on the state-of-the-art of 4K and beyond, including the different UHDTV format definitions, applicable display technologies for direct-view and projection, content storage and delivery requirements, bandwidth issues, display interfacing and switching challenges, and codecs. Attendees will leave with an understanding of:
* UHDTV standards and specifications for image capture and display, including SMPTE UHD-1 (up to Ultra HD) and UHD-2 (beyond Ultra HD) definitions
* How to calculate the basic bandwidth, clock rate, and data rate requirements
* The basic differences between low-latency codecs (JPEG2000, DSC) and high-latency codecs (MPEG4 H.264, HEVC H.265, VP9) for encoding and decoding 4K and what types of switches are required to move 4K video content over networks
* Economic factors that have accelerated the adoption of commercial flat-screen displays with 4K resolution, are nudging projectors to move to 4K resolution, and leading a transition to 8K resolution in the near future
This session is open to all seminar and workshop package holders, and will be seated on a first-come, first -served basis.
